With the Series 20, Pioneer showed what was technically possible at the end of the 1970s. The F-26 was the most expensive tuner Pioneer made at the time, with an original price of around $1,000. In true audiophile tradition it receives FM only, so that every effort could go into the best possible reception and sound quality.
The tuner uses a quartz sampling lock system that engages automatically as soon as the tuning knob is released, and features an elaborate front end with a 7-gang tuning section and 4 ceramic filters. A generous power supply, adjustable muting, adjustable stereo/mono switchover and gold-plated terminals complete the package.
On tuner forums the F-26 is often mentioned in the same breath as the Sansui TU-X1 and Kenwood L-02T as one of the best tuners ever made. Units rarely come up for sale and are highly sought after by collectors.
This unit is used and in the condition shown in the photos.
