The Wharfedale EVO 5.2 is a true 3-way loudspeaker in a bookshelf format. It combines a 6-inch woofer with a woven Kevlar cone, a dedicated 50 mm dome midrange and a large AMT tweeter (Air Motion Transformer). Because the midrange has its own drive unit, voices and instruments sound remarkably clear and vivid, with an open and spacious soundstage.
Compared to the EVO 4.2, the cabinet is larger, with an internal volume of over 27 litres. Together with the Slot-Loaded Profiled Port (SLPP), which vents on three sides, this delivers deep and tight bass down to 38 Hz (−6 dB). As the port fires downwards, the EVO 5.2 is not fussy about placement and can be positioned closer to a wall.
The cabinet uses a multi-layer, heavily damped construction, and the integrated plinth decouples the speaker from the surface it stands on. With a sensitivity of 88 dB, the EVO 5.2 is easy to drive with amplifiers from around 25 watts. Matching Wharfedale stands are available separately.
