The Akai AT-550 is an attractive analogue tuner from the golden age of Japanese hi-fi. It features a large linear tuning scale and separate meters for signal strength and precise FM tuning. This makes it not only a functional tuner, but also a particularly stylish addition to a classic hi-fi system.
For its time, the AT-550 was technically very well equipped. Akai used, among other things, a sensitive FM front end and a multi-stage ceramic filter. The tuner also features an MPX Noise Filter, which can reduce unwanted high-frequency noise during stereo reception.
The AT-550 is also remarkably comprehensive in terms of connectivity. In addition to a fixed audio output, it features a variable output whose level can be adjusted from the front panel. FM Multipath outputs are also provided for connection to an oscilloscope, as well as a connection for an external 4-channel decoder.
A beautiful vintage Akai for enthusiasts looking for an authentic 1970s tuner to complete a classic hi-fi system.
