The Pioneer SG-9800 provides independent adjustment of 12 frequency bands per channel, ranging from a very low 16 Hz all the way up to 32 kHz. Each frequency can be adjusted within a range of ±10 dB, allowing the sound to be precisely tailored to the loudspeakers, listening room or personal preference.
One of the most distinctive features of the SG-9800 is its large number of vertically positioned sliders with illuminated indicators. Combined with the classic aluminium front panel, this gives the unit an appearance that perfectly matches Pioneer’s larger components from the late 1970s.
In addition to normal playback use, the equalizer can also be used in combination with a tape deck. This allows the selected equalizer curve to be applied during recording as well.
With a frequency response of 5 Hz to 100 kHz, a signal-to-noise ratio of 92 dB and very low distortion, the SG-9800 is not only an attractive collector’s item but also a technically serious vintage hi-fi component.
