Product Description

The McIntosh C49 is a high-performance 2-channel solid-state preamplifier designed to deliver exceptional audio performance. For analog connectivity, the C49 features 2 balanced (XLR) and 3 unbalanced (RCA) inputs, as well as 2 phono inputs for both Moving Coil (MC) and Moving Magnet (MM) cartridges, ideal for vinyl enthusiasts. On the digital side, the C49 is equipped with the DA1 Digital Audio Module, which offers 6 digital inputs: 2 coaxial, 2 optical, 1 USB and 1 MCT input for direct connection to McIntosh’s MCT series SACD/CD transports. The DA1 module utilizes an 8-channel, 32-bit Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) in Quad Balanced mode, supporting high-resolution audio formats up to DSD256 and DXD 384kHz. A notable feature of the C49 is its modular design; the DA1 module can be replaced in the future with new modules, such as the optional DA2 Digital Audio Module, to keep the preamplifier up to date with the latest digital audio technologies. For outputs, the C49 offers 2 balanced and 2 unbalanced variable outputs, as well as 1 unbalanced fixed output, providing flexibility for various amplifier and speaker configurations. In addition, the C49 features tone controls for bass and treble, Home Theater Pass Through for integration into home theater systems, and a high-quality headphone amplifier with Headphone Crossfeed Director (HXD®) for an enhanced headphone listening experience. The classic McIntosh design with a black glass front panel, illuminated logo and aluminum finishes makes the C49 an elegant addition to any high-fidelity audio system.
